Holiday Inn planned for Marketplace Circle
<![CDATA[ROCHESTER HILLS — A new three-story Holiday Inn Express and Suites is planned for the Marketplace Circle development south of M-59 and west of Adams Road.
The 46,000-square-foot-hotel will hold 83 rooms, a fitness center and indoor swimming pool. The project developer and owner is the Rochester Hills-based Amerilodge Group, headquartered on Hamlin Road.
Amerilodge Group President Asad Malik said plans for the new Holiday Inn include a groundbreaking in January of 2013.
“Our goal would be to open in six or seven months,” Malik said. “Sometime around July 4.”
The new hotel will be identical to a Holiday Inn the Amerilodge Group recently constructed in Lansing. “We will build the exact same product in Monroe,” he said. Amerilodge has also constructed Holiday Inns in Utica, Chesterfield Township and Grand Blanc and are currently building a Holiday Inn in Troy on Stephenson Highway near 14 Mile Road.
“We are focused on growing and developing in Michigan,” Malik said.
Twenty-two trees will be moved from the Marketplace Circle hotel site to alternate locations to comply with a local ordinance aimed at maintaining traffic sight lines. “We have a fairly extensive landscape plan that goes with this project,” said Ed Anzek, Rochester Hills director of Planning and Development.
The project does not include a freestanding sign on M-59. “There are only two (signs at that development) permitted,” Anzek said. “And they are already taken.”
By a 6-0 vote November 12, the Rochester Hills City Council approved the site plan for the new Holiday Inn.
“As a business traveler, I know that you have a tendency to shop and use local restaurants and amenities, so I think there is economic benefit,” Council member Nathan Klomp said. “I think that the hotels that are successful, really connect with the community.”
“Our corporate offices are here in Rochester Hills,” Malik said. “I am a resident of Rochester Hills. We will be very involved in the community.”
“We are very grateful for your significant investment,” Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan Barnett said. “We look forward to a long and profitable relationship.”
City Council President Greg Hooper recused himself from the Council vote, stating his employer has a minor interest in the property.
